Punica

Punica
Quilted coverlet in block printed cotton from Kavaljersflygeln – “the chevalier’s wing” at Gripsholm castle, furnished 1781. The coverlet has an embroidered marking: GH 1781 under a royal crown (GH = GripsHolm). The original print is red and brownish black on white ground. When the wing was furnished old and old fashioned fabrics were used, probably to save money and time. The Swedish textile historian Ingegerd Henshen states, that this print in late baroque style was probably printed in the 1730ies or 1740ies at the Sickla manufactory in Stockholm. Interior fabrics were less sensitive to changes in fashion.
