The original for this striped fabric, woven with mirrored repeat, is from the later part of the 18th century. The fabric is from France and has been curtains and a cover for a four-poster bed. Striped fabrics experienced a renaissance in the 18th century after having a low status and previously being considered to belong to the lowest classes of society. But when the upper classes got tired of ornate chinoiserie in the late 18th century and neoclassical design emerged, stripes became fashionable both in clothes and interiors.
