The original is a block print in red and brownish black with pencilled details in light brown and greyish yellow, printed on medium fine hand spun cotton. The fabric is a lining of a chasuble originating from Bärbo church in Södermanland, central Sweden. Both the late 17th century embroidered velvet and the printed cotton lining are reused interior fabrics. The print can be dated to the mid 18th century when oriental motifs and chinoiserie was fashionable. The place of manufactory is unknown; probably the cotton print was imported from Holland or France.
