The original fabric is a woman’s shortgown in a private collection origin form Kallfors manor, Södermanland, Sweden. The cut of the shortgown dates it to 1780-90, but the fabric is reused and dates to the mid 18th century. The pattern with white flowers and fruits on brown ground has a late baroque character. It was block printed on medium fine hand spun cotton with a resevage paste and then dyed brown - leaving the design white. The fabric could well be Swedish. Probably it was intended as an interior fabric, but apparently it was also used for this type of informal garments.
