RIPS blue

Hedemark open air museum, Hamar, Norway.  inv.nr: OF-9934-b.The original fabric was used as a lining in christening gown from Løten, Norway, consisting of cape, stomacher and coif of white brocaded silk. The lining is of cotton, block printed in red and brownish black on white ground. The design imitates small the patterned silks for gentlemen’s wear, droguet liseré, from the mid 18th century(compare with NÄCKROS in Durán Textiles collection). The print could be dated to the 1780-ies or 90-ies, but the place of manufacture is not known.
