Bed curtains and mattress cover in block printed cotton from Kavaljersflygeln – “the chevalier’s wing” at Gripsholm castle, furnished 1781. The original print is black red and reddish brown on off-white ground. Influence from neoclassicism during the “gustavian” period 1778-92 in Sweden (compare Louis XIV in France) made striped textiles very popular. The striped cotton prints were used for furnishing, but also as linings and for everyday clothing.
